  • Yin Yuan

    Yinyuan Longqi, The Zen monk in the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty, was born in Fuqing Prefecture, Fuzhou Prefecture, Fujian. He went to Japan to spread Buddhism with Daozhechaoyuan. They had a great influence on the reconstruction of the Rinzai sect and the Soto sect of the Japanese Zen sect at that time. He is also the founder of the Obaku sect of Japanese Zen sect and the founder of Senchado.

  • Ji Fei

    Ji Fei (即非), styled Ji Fei (即非), was a Zen monk from Huangbo Mountain in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, during the late Ming Dynasty. He was a prominent monk of the Huangbo school (also known as the Obaku sect) and played a significant role in spreading Zen Buddhism to Japan during the late Ming period.

    Kano Naonobu, Kano school painter in the early Edo period. The second son of Takanobu Kano, the younger brother of Tanyu Kano, and the older brother of Yasunobu Kano. His son is Kano Tsunenobu.

  • Donggao Xinyue

    Donggao Xunyue, courtesy name was Xin Yue, art name was Dong Gao, born in Pujiang Zhejiang. He was good at calligraphy, painting and seal carving, and was also talented at music. Since he came to Japan, he had great influence on Japanese culture. He founded the Shou Changyi School of the Caodong Zen Buddhism sect, and he socialized a wide range of Japanese monks. He transmitted the Guqin music (a plucked seven-string musical instrument) which had lost its tradition in Japan. He also learned Japanese, and transmitted Japanese poem Waka and Haiku to the world.

  • Kano Tanyu

    Kano Tanyu, born in Kyoto, Japan, an artist of the Edo period. He served the Tokugawa Shogunate for many years. He incorporated the Chinese Painting Times and produced his own original works, which influenced the Japanese art circles. He left home at about age 36.

    Dai Mangong, courtesy name was Zi Chen, art name was Man Gong, born in Hanzhou Zhejiang. After moving to Japan, he changed his courtesy name to Du Li, art name to Huangbo Shanseng. He was good at poetry, calligraphy, and seal carving.
