Minton was one of the leading British ceramic manufacturers of the nineteenth century. Founded by Thomas Minton in Stoke-on-Trent in the 1790s, the firm flourished under his son, Herbert Minton. At the Great Exhibition of 1851, Minton presented an elaborate dessert service combining bone china with Parian figures, attracting the admiration of Queen Victoria, who purchased the service. The firm subsequently developed an extensive range of earthenware, porcelain and majolica, making a significant contribution to the decorative arts of the Victorian era.
