  TSUKIOKA YOSHITOSHI was one of the last great masters of ukiyo-e, active from the closing years of the Edo period into the Meiji era. Initially acclaimed for dramatic warrior prints and sensational muzan-e, his style gradually evolved toward lyrical historical subjects, elegant bijin-ga, and psychologically expressive compositions.
