TERASHIMA RYUICHI, a Japanese Western-style painter, studied at the Tokyo Fine Arts School. He gained recognition in exhibitions during his student years and became an active participant in the Nitten and Kofu-kai art societies. Renowned for his portraits and depictions of women, he developed a unique style that incorporated the landscapes of Spain and Italy. Influenced by the Sienese School and Giacometti, he explored elements of fantasy and spatial expression. Terashima also excelled in illustration, contributing to children's books and newspaper serials, where his work garnered significant attention.
