    CARLO BATTAGLIA, originally from Italy, studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and graduated in 1957 with a thesis on Jackson Pollock. In 1967, he began his stay in New York, where he developed friendships with Ad Reinhardt, Robert Motherwell, and Mark Rothko. In 1970, he exhibited his first series on "Maree" (Tides), a theme that would become central to his work throughout his life. Subsequently, he participated in numerous group exhibitions on contemporary Italian art at various international venues.
