• CHRISTO (1935-2020) and JEANNE (1935-2009), an environmental artist couple from Bulgaria and French Morocco. They are known for their large-scale art projects in which buildings are completely wrapped in artificially colored fabric to represent the natural environment within human society. After the couple became U.S. citizens in the 1980s, their huge artistic expenses were covered not by government, museums, or corporate support, but by selling their works.
