Wang Chuantao

  • Wang Chuantao, whose courtesy name was Jimei, was born in Wuxing, Zhejiang (now Huzhou) on February 14, 1903, and passed away on February 6, 1978, at the age of 75. He was the third son of the renowned master Wang Yiting, a leading figure of the Shanghai School during the late Qing and early Ming periods.

      Wang Yachen (1894-1983) was born in Hangzhou Zhejiang, originally from Taiping (now Huangshan). In 1915, he and Chen and others established China’s first painting association called “the Oriental Painting Association”. He came to Japan in 1916, graduated from the Western Painting Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 1921, and returned to China in the same year, and served as the professor and the chief of Shanghai Art College. From 1928 to 1931, he went to Europe for research, and after returning to China, he was the principal of the Qing Arts College and the principal of the Xinhua Arts Normal School. In 1947, he traveled to the United States, held lectures and painting exhibitions, and worked to spread Chinese painting.

      Wang Yiting, courtesy name is Yiting, art name is Bai longshan ren, Meihua guan zhu, Hai Yunshan zhu deng and so on. He was born in Qingpu, Shanghai. He is a famous artist and Comprador in the last years of Qing dynasty, the early years of Republic of China. He was a buddhist for life. He learned painting from Xu Xiaocang when he was young.
