Zhang Ruitu

  • Zhang Ruitu, courtesy name Changgong, also known by the pseudonyms Ershui, Baihao Anzhu, and Guoting Shannren, was a prominent figure from the late Ming dynasty. He hailed from Xiahang Township in the 27th district of Jinjiang, Fujian. He achieved the rank of "Tanhua" (third place in the imperial examination) in the 1599 (Ming Wanli 丁未) examination. Known for his exceptional calligraphy, his style was unique, bold, and dynamic, with a forceful brushwork and striking, unconventional forms that made a lasting impression.

      Xian Yushu, courtesy name Boji, nicknamed Quxue Shanmin, Zhiji Laoren and his camp in his later years was named "Qixue Zhizhai", a famous calligrapher in the Yuan Dynasty and served as Taichang Dianbo in the sixth year of Dade(1302). From Yuan Shizu to Yuan Dynasty, he was selected as the Xuanweisi of Eastern Zhejiang by talent, and later changed to the capital of Eastern Zhejiang Province.

      Tang Qichang (1555-1636), courtesy name was Xuan Zai, art name was Si Bai and Xiangguang Jushi, born in Huating. He wsa talented and had great abilities in poetry, calligraphy and painting. He preferred painting landscape, and put emphasis on traditional techniques, and pursued brushstrokes and color to create beautiful works. His works had a great influence on the art world in the Late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, and also on the present day, they are still being pursued by collectors all over the world.
