Gao Qifeng

  • Gao Qifeng (高奇峰), a late Qing dynasty painter, was born in Guangzhou, Guangdong. His given name was Wei (嵡), and his courtesy name was Qifeng (奇峰), which he used as his professional name. Gao studied abroad in Japan and was a member of the Tongmenghui (同盟會), a revolutionary organization. Along with his brother Gao Jianfu (高劍父) and the painter Chen Shuren (陳樹人), he is recognized as one of the founding figures of the Lingnan School of Painting (嶺南畫派). Gao was highly regarded for his artistic skill and contributed significantly to the development of modern Chinese painting, earning the reputation as one of the "Two Gaos and One Chen," the three giants of the Lingnan School.
