MUNAKATA SHIKO, printmaker, born in Aomori, Japan, one of the world's leading masters of 20th century art. He decided to become a printmaker after being moved by seeing KAWAKAMI SUMIO's print "Early Summer Wind." He called his prints "board paintings" and consistently produced works that made the most of the characteristics of woodblock prints.
