Xie Tingxun

  • Xie Tingxun, personal name Dehuan, also known simply as Huan and commonly referred to by his courtesy name, bore the sobriquets Mengyin and Lejing. He was a native of Heyang, Yongjia, Zhejiang, and a descendant of Xie Lingyun. His father, Shizhong, courtesy name Bida and sobriquet Qingqu, was skilled in painting and was posthumously granted the titles of General of Martial Virtue and Commander of the Embroidered Uniform Guard (Jinyiwei Qianhu). From an early age, Xie Tingxun inherited his family’s scholarly tradition and was gifted in multiple arts; contemporaries praised him as possessing the “Three Perfections” of poetry, calligraphy, and painting.
