【Overview】

Japanese painter Hiroshi Senju is one of the leading figures in contemporary Japanese art and enjoys widespread international acclaim. In 1995, he became the first Asian artist to receive an Honorary Prize at the Venice Biennale, and has since continued an active global career marked by numerous prestigious awards.

This exhibition centers on Senju's iconic Waterfall series, widely regarded as the signature achievement of his artistic practice. Also featured are works from the Flat Water series, which preceded the development of the Waterfall paintings, as well as recent works from the Waterfall on Colors series. Created during the COVID-19 pandemic, these paintings reflect the artist's perception that color had disappeared from the world during that period.

In addition, the exhibition includes hanging scroll works mounted with rare antique textiles, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience both the traditional and innovative dimensions of Senju's art. Together, these works reveal the artist's ongoing exploration of new possibilities within the enduring legacy of Japanese painting.
