The Kawachi Genji clan produced many prominent historical figures, including Minamoto no Yoshiie, known as “Hachimantaro,” the brothers Minamoto no Yoritomo and Yoshitsune, and Ashikaga Takauji. The origins of the clan trace back to Minamoto no Yorinobu, grandfather of Yoshiie, who established his residence in Tsuboi, Kawachi Province (present-day Habikino City, Osaka). His son, Minamoto no Yoriyoshi, invited the deity of Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine and founded Tsuboi Hachimangu Shrine, which has since been venerated as the guardian shrine of the Minamoto clan and revered by the warrior class throughout history.
