In a contemporary condition saturated with information and images, tragedy and humor are placed side by side within the same frame. We are once again confronted with a fundamental question: what do we feel, and where do we direct our focus?

The exhibition Sleeping Face, Splitting World, Stick Needles Into the Eyes brings together four artists with differing materials and embodied sensibilities, forming an alchemical dialogue that navigates the terrain between ethics and perception.

R E M A produces a pastiche of works by Ana Mendieta, exposing how ethics waver and transform according to environment and circumstance. Starting from her own surgical experiences, Airi Kawakami traverses between “hospital” and “hospitality,” translating bodily memory and gaze into painting. The botanical interventions by furniture maker Yuki Hiragi and botanical artist SYO TANii introduce breath and circulation into the space, generating new layers in the relationship between artworks and viewers.

Through the intersection of these four practices, the exhibition reflects upon the ambiguity of contemporary perception—seeing, yet not truly seeing—and seeks to reawaken ethical awareness and sensory faculties that are gradually being lost.
