[Overview]
Over the course of centuries, tea utensils have been cherished and passed down through many hands,
often surviving numerous threats of damage and loss.
Even after being altered by war, disaster, or the passage of time,
these utensils, once carefully repaired, acquire a renewed beauty and presence.
Some works even embrace the traces of repair—such as gold joinery (kintsugi), metal staples (kugitsugi), or reweaving—as aesthetic expressions in themselves,
reflecting the owner’s affection and refined sensibilities toward their tools.
This exhibition presents tea utensils restored through various repair techniques,
exploring their histories and the distinctive allure they embody today.
We hope it offers visitors an opportunity to rediscover the spirit of the tea practitioners
who have continued to care for their utensils with devotion,
and to reflect upon the aesthetic that finds beauty even in the marks of repair.
