KPM Berlin, the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Berlin, dates from 1763, when Frederick the Great acquired the Berlin porcelain manufactory and reorganised it as a royal manufactory, establishing it as one of Europe's most distinguished porcelain producers. In addition to producing sumptuous table services and centrepieces for the royal court, KPM embraced new approaches to form and decoration from the late nineteenth century onwards, bringing together tradition and innovation. The sceptre, derived from the coat of arms of the Electorate of Brandenburg and adopted by Frederick the Great as the manufactory's mark, remains KPM Berlin's most enduring identifying symbol.
