  YANAGAWA SHIGENOBU was one of the leading disciples of Katsushika Hokusai and worked across a broad range of subjects, including bijin-ga, warrior prints, and book illustrations. While inheriting Hokusai's dynamic compositions and expressive style, he developed a more refined and elegant artistic language of his own. As the founder of the Yanagawa school, he trained numerous pupils and played an important role in preserving and expanding the artistic legacy of the Katsushika tradition.
