  ZHAO DALU is a Chinese oil painter based in Beijing. He graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Beijing Film Academy in 1982 and subsequently taught at the Department of Fine Arts of Capital Normal University while continuing his artistic practice. Working primarily with figures and the human form, he developed a painterly language grounded in assured draftsmanship and a nuanced handling of colour in oil. His practice emerged during a period of renewed experimentation in Chinese oil painting from the 1980s onward. His paintings Morning and In the First Month of the Year received awards at national exhibitions in China. During the 1990s, he held solo exhibitions in Italy, and his works have entered collections in China as well as in Italy, Germany, the United States, Japan and Singapore.
