  JOSEPH BEUYS was one of the defining figures of post-war German art and the originator of the concept of Social Sculpture (Soziale Plastik), through which he expanded the notion of sculpture to encompass society itself. Associated with the Fluxus movement, Beuys worked across sculpture, drawing, installation, and performance, regarding artistic practice as a catalyst for social and political transformation. Employing symbolically charged materials such as felt, fat, and honey, he explored themes of mythology, spirituality, politics, and ecology within a highly individual visual language. Alongside his artistic production, he was deeply engaged in art education and the advocacy of direct democracy. Projects such as 7000 Oaks, presented at documenta 7 in 1982, exemplify his enduring vision of art as a transformative social force. His ideas continue to exert a profound influence on contemporary art and critical discourse worldwide.
