  GIORGIO DE CHIRICO was an Italian painter active from the early 20th century who pioneered the Metaphysical Painting movement. His distinctive imagery—classical arcades, elongated shadows, mannequins, and trains—creates haunting and dream-like spaces that transcend conventional reality. After 1919, de Chirico shifted toward traditional techniques and classical themes, yet his early metaphysical vision continued to inform his work. His art signals the possibility of worlds beyond time and place and significantly influenced the Surrealist movement.
