FUJITA TSUGUHARU, born in Tokyo, was a painter and sculptor who settled in Paris in 1913 and became a central figure of the international art scene. Women and cats were his favored subjects, and he is best known for the distinctive "milky white skin" effect, created by blending the delicate line work of Japanese traditional painting with Western oil painting techniques. As one of the representative artists of the École de Paris, Foujita left a striking impression on the Western art world with his unique methods and aesthetics. His work, rooted in the fusion of Eastern and Western traditions, evolved over time and continues to be highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad.
