KUSAMA YAYOI, a Japanese artist, began painting to escape from the hallucinations and auditory delusions she had suffered since childhood. After moving to the United States in 1957, she not only created paintings and sculptures but also performed radical happenings, earning her the nickname "Queen of the Avant-garde."
