ALBERTO GIACOMETTI, Swiss sculptor and painter. He entered the School of Fine Arts in Geneve in 1919, then moved to Paris in 1922. He studied under the sculptor ANTOINE BOURDELLE. At this time, he interacted with PABLO PICASSO, MAX ERNST and JUAN MIRO. Influenced by Surrealism, he produced sculptures made of wood and wire, reminiscent of animal bones. In the 1930s, he broke with Surrealism and returned to figurative sculpture. From around 1947, after the Second World War, he began experimenting with models such as his brother DIEGO and the Japanese philosopher YANAIHARA ISAKU. He then established a new bronze sculpture in which the body is elongated and stretched.
