Lu Foting, known by the art name Banseng, was born in 1911 in Biyang, Henan. He graduated from the Beiping Art School. His original name was Lu Tianci, styled Futing and Foting, with the art names Banseng and Yuong, and Buddhist name Puxian. He was a prominent Taiwanese painter and calligrapher, especially renowned for ink landscape paintings. In 1948, he moved to Taiwan and worked for many years at Taichung Normal School (now National Taichung University of Education).
