KITAMURA HARUYOSHI

KITAMURA HARUYOSHI was a sculptor from Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, and the eldest son of the sculptor Seibo Kitamura. He graduated from the Department of Sculpture (Modeling Division) at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1937 and completed the school's research program in 1939. While still a student, his work ""Shōjo (Girl) ""was selected for the Shin-Bunten Exhibition in 1936, marking the beginning of his active artistic career. In 1951, he became a judge for the Nitten Exhibition, later serving as a councilor in 1958, a director in 1969, and the chairman from 1987 to 1989. Additionally, he held the position of chairman of the Japan Sculpture Society, contributing significantly to the development of Japanese sculpture. In 1980, he was elected as a member of the Japan Art Academy, an event that drew attention as he joined alongside his father, Seibo Kitamura. His works were based on realism, with a solid and refined style, and he was particularly known for his poetic depictions of female figures. His notable works include ""Sora (Sky)"", ""Hikaru Nami (Shining Waves)"", ""Seishin (Pure Heart)"", and ""Maki Kumo (Cirrus Clouds)"".
