Xie Songzhou

Xie Shangzhou, with the courtesy name Cangmei and the alias Lincun, was from Changzhou (modern-day Suzhou) during the Qing Dynasty. He was skilled in poetry and excelled in landscape painting, having studied the brushwork styles of Ni Huang (Ni Zan) and Yuan Dynasty artists. He was particularly adept at鉴别 (appraising and identifying artworks) and was specially appointed during the Yongzheng period to appraise rare calligraphy and famous paintings stored in the Imperial Collection.
