WILLIAM HILTON R.A. was a British history painter active in the early 19th century and was highly regarded as a full member of the Royal Academy. He produced many distinguished works depicting religious, mythological, and historical themes, characterized by their gentle coloring and expressive figures. His representative works include “Edith finding the Body of Harold” and “Sir Calepine rescuing Serena.” In his later years, he was also involved in the administration of the Royal Academy, contributing to the development of British art.
