ISAMU NOGUCHI, a Japanese American artist. Born in Los Angeles to English literature scholar, writer, and Keio University professor NOGUCHI YONEJIRO and American writer LEONIE GILMORE. He lived in Japan from the ages of 3 to 14 before moving to the U.S. on his own to pursue his dream of becoming a sculptor. His artistic talents have flourished not only in sculpture, but also in a wide range of other fields, including commercial design, stage design, painting, and park design. He was appointed to represent the United States at the Venice Biennale and was awarded the National Medal of Arts by President REAGAN.
