Fan Qi

  • Fanqi, whose common surname was Zhu, also had the courtesy name Chushi and Tanyao, and his later nickname was Old Man Xizhai. A native of Xiangshan, Zhejiang, he was a disciple of the fifth generation of the Great Hui Zong Gao. In the seventh year of Zhizheng (1347), he was awarded the title of "Buddha Sun Puzhao Huibian Zen Master". In the past 50 years, he has sat in six dojos and preached Zen Buddhism, and was respected as "the first-class master in the early Ming Dynasty".
