NAGARE MASAYUK

  • NAGARE MASAYUKI, sculptor and gardener, born in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. He moved to Kyoto in 1936 and entered the Faculty of law and Literature at Ritsumeikan University in 1942. He left school and became a Zero fighter pilot at the end of the war. After the war, he wandered around Japan. In 1960, his work "Receiving" was added to the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and in 1975, he created the giant 250-ton sculpture "Cloud Fortress" as a symbol of the World Trade Center in New York, which won international acclaim.
