SHIOTA CHIHARU

• SHIOTA CHIHARU, contemporary artist, born in Osaka, living in Berlin. She graduated from Kyoto Seika University, Faculty of Fine Arts with a major in Western painting. While a student at the same university, she studied at the Australian National University (ANU) Canberra School of Art as an exchange student for one year from 1993. After graduation, she studied under Marina Abramovic at the University of Fine Arts Hamburg. She has been exploring "what it means to live" and "what it means to exist," and creates works using various techniques such as sculpture, photography, and video, with a focus on large-scale installation that spins a thread of presence in absence, such as memories that reside in places and objects.. Since 2000, she has had solo exhibitions around the world and participated in many international exhibitions. She has also created numerous stage designs for operas and others.
