Chen Zhimai

• Chen Zhimai was born in Panyu, Guangdong. He is the great-grandson of Chen Li, a famous Confucian in Lingnan. In the 17th year of the Republic of China(1928), he graduated from Tsinghua University and went to the United States to study history and politics. The following year, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Oshio State University. In the 23rd year of the Republic of China, he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Colombia University. In the same year, he returned to China and served as a professor in the Political Department of Tsinghua University. In the following year, he joined the Independent Review Agency headed by Hu Shi and assisted in the compilation and printing of the weekly "Independent Review".
