LUCIE RIE

• LUCIE RIE, a late 20th century British-based ceramic artist from Vienna, Austria. Her works are characterized by the graceful and tense forms produced on the potter's wheel, unique patterns created by inlaying and scraping, and the warm tones of her glazes. Winner of gold medals at the Brussels Exposition (1935) and the Milan Triennale (1936) and a silver medal at the Paris Exposition (1937). 1951 - Exhibited with Hans Koper at the Berkeley Gallery, London. 1972 - Exhibition "Lucie Rie - Hans Coper Keramik" at the Museum of Arts and Crafts Hamburg. 1989 - Solo exhibitions at the Sogetsu Kaikan and the Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka. 1994 - Exhibition with Hans Coper at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tokyo.
