Yan Songfu, whose original name was Lei, was from Yangzhou. He was skilled in painting landscapes, figures, flowers, birds, and animals, with increasing mastery. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance, he fled to Sichuan and used his paintings to awaken the public. He exhibited over a hundred anti-Japanese propaganda paintings on the streets of Wanzhou, receiving praise from General Feng Yuxiang. In his later years, Yan focused on painting cattle and tigers, drawing on the techniques of past masters. He used the method of applying ink while still wet, blending the patterns and fur color seamlessly with ink, achieving significant success. He was acclaimed in the art world as "Old Tiger Yan."
