Jin Erzhen

  • Jin Erzhen, styled Jishi and also known by the art names Shaozhi, Su’an, and Su’an, with the alternate name Meihuacaotang, was of the Hui ethnic group from Xiushui (present-day Jiaxing, Zhejiang). He resided in Shanghai and held the title of official tribute student. He excelled in calligraphy and painting, was knowledgeable in epigraphy, and skilled in authentication. Known for his integrity, he formed sworn brotherhoods with Wu Changshuo, Ren Bonian, and others, earning the nickname “Shaozhi Fourth Brother.” He actively participated in Shanghai’s calligraphy and painting activities and contributed to the establishment of the Xiling Seal Society in Hangzhou and the Yuyuan Calligraphy and Painting Society in Shanghai.
