Tan Rui

Tan Rui, secular surname Meng, given name Boqian, Tianyangmin, born in Fuping, Shaanxi Province. Born into a scholarly family, he learned Confucianism from an early age. He entered Tsinghua University in Beijing. During the Sino-Japanese War, he taught Confucianism at Northwest University and the Thirteen Classics at the Confucius Church in Xi'an. In 1954, he became a lecturer at Asia University in Japan, teaching Confucian philosophy. At the same time he joined Toyo University research. In 1959, he received a master's degree from the same university for his dissertation, "Sima Qian's History Writing Techniques". This achievement was recognized and commended by the Japanese government. In 1961, he completed his doctoral course at the same university and received his Ph.D. with the thesis "Research on the Origin of Mahayana Buddhism".
