Li Shinan

• Li Shinan, from Shaoxing, Zhejiang, was born in Shanghai. In 1962, he studied under He Haixia. In 1971 he studied under Shilu. He is a member of the China Artists Association, a national first-class artist, a special researcher of the China National Academy of Painting, and an honorary director of the Shanxi Guo Painting Academy. He is a representative painter of contemporary large-scale portrait painting. His successors include Liang Kai, Xu Wei and Shilu. He developed ink painting and large-scale color portrait painting, and also combined portrait painting, landscape painting, and bird-and-flower painting. During his half-century, his remarkable achievements have had a great influence on the art world.
