Gu Xieguang, with the courtesy name as Dingmei and the art name as Chongkan was born in Hueiji, Zhejiang. He became the director of the Dufen Hui and held positions in the finance and supervisory departments. He is good at calligraphy. He has an interest in Han dynasty clerical books, Baiyang, and Silla paintings, and is well versed in literati paintings. He lived in Weihui, Henan Province, for eight years and visited more than 700 unwritten stone monuments from the Han and Yuan dynasties. Among the many stele rubbings collected by him, there are some very valuable ones, such as the Han Liu Xiong Stele, which has been buried for many years since the Northern Song Dynasty in Yanjin School.
