MAURICE UTRILLO, modern French painter. He is highly regarded for his drawings, which he did as part of his treatment for alcoholism. Most of his works are landscapes, churches, canals, and other familiar Parisian scenes. In particular, he painted many scenes of the city of Montmartre using a thick white technique. In 1928, he was awarded the fifth degree of L'ordre national de la légion d'honneur.
