He Ruzhang

He Ruzhang with the courtesy name as Zi'e was born in Chaozhou Prefecture, Guangdong Province. Three years later he became a Jinshi. He was selected as a Shujishi of the Hanlin Yuan, and later became an editor of the Hanlin Yuan. He was an early Chinese diplomat and a pioneer in the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between China and Japan. He was the first minister to Japan. Along with Qiu Fengjia, Huang Zunxian, and Ding Richang, he is known as the "Lingdong Four Gentleman."
