    Xu Peisan, whose courtesy name is Zhenxuan and whose family name is Zixiage, was born in Rudong, Jiangsu Province. He graduated from Shanghai Xinhua Art College in 1936. He studied under Wang Yachen and Xie Gongzhan. He is currently a librarian at the Shanghai Literature and History Research Center.
