Lao She, a male writer, originally named Shu Qingchun, with the pen names Xie Qing, Hong Lai, and Fei Wo Deng. He was a modern Chinese novelist, writer, language master, and People's Artist, as well as a playwright for the Beijing People's Art Theatre. He was the first writer in New China to be awarded the title of "People's Artist." His representative works include the novel *Camel Xiangzi*, *Four Generations Under One Roof*, and the plays *Teahouse* and *Dragon Beard Ditch*.
