Song Cao

  • Song Cao, with the courtesy name as Binshin, the art name as Shaling, born in Yancheng Xingchang, a calligrapher in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His representative works include "Shoho Yakugen", "Shosho Thousand Characters", "Du Shikai", and "Kaishudo Poetry Collection". These works have a great influence on later calligraphy and poetry. In the Qing dynasty, he became dissatisfied with the Qing government and did not become a civil servant and lived in a secluded place. He wrote many famous poems under the art name as Kokai Toshio. He is a patriotic poet whose poetry expresses his sympathy for the country's poor workers and his hatred of the Qing Dynasty's rule.
