Zhang Biao

  • Zhang Biao with the courtesy name as Tiger was born in Yuji, Shanxi Province, and was a military official in the late Qing Dynasty. He served as Admiral of Hubei Province and Deputy Governor of the Army. After the North-South reconciliation, he resigned and went to Japan. He returned to China in the first year of the Republic of China, was hired by the government as a senior advisor, and was given the rank of Lieutenant General of the Army. Since then, he has lived in Tianjin and built a garden house of 600 tsubo in the Japanese concession. It is named "Zhangyuan". In the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924), Sun Zhongshan made a declaration to move north and headed for Beijing. His wife used to live in Zhangyuan. In February of the following year, the last emperor Puyi and Empress Wanrong, who were expelled from Beijing, also lived in Zhangyuan.
