Huayan

• Hua Yan (1682-1756) was born in Shanghang Xiaoyang Huajia (family) in Fujian Province and later lived in Hangzhou. The courtesy names are Tokugaku, Shugaku, and the artnames are Baeksa Dojin, Sillasan, Higashisono, Buoi, Rikokoji, and Pyohoja. He specializes in portraits, landscape paintings, bird-and-flower paintings, grass and insect paintings. He is good at sketching animals. He was also good at calligraphy and poetry, and was sometimes called "Sanzetsu". He was a master of painting in the Qing dynasty and one of the representatives of the Yangzhou school of painting.
