Xuezhou

  • Sesshu, a Japanese water-ink painter in Muromachi era. Born in Bicchu Akahama. He is also a priest of Shokokuji Temple. In his early years, he mainly painted religious figures, but later adopted the painting techniques of the Tang, Song, and Yuan dynasties in China. Sesshu made a great contribution to the popularization of ink painting among the people and had an influence on Sesson and others.
