Gong Xian

  • Gong Xian, courtesy name was Ban Qian and Ban Mu, art name was Ye Yi, Chai Zhanren and Zhongshan Yelao, born in Kunshan Jiangsu, later moved to Jinling (now Nanjing), a prominent painter of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, one of the eight masters of Jinling. In the late of Ming Dynasty, he was in outside of Ming and could not back into the Qing Dynasty, so he lived in Qingliang Mountain, Nanjing. He was the author of “Xiang Cao Tang Ji”, together with artists from Jinling, Fan Qi, Gao Cen, Zou Zhe, Wu Hong, Ye Xin, Hu Zao, Xie Sun, were called the eight masters of Jinling “Jinling Bajia”. In the early Qing Dynasty, along with a prominent poetry painter Luo Qian was called “Tianxia Erban”.
