Jujie

  • Ju Jie (1524-1585) was a calligrapher and painter of the Ming Dynasty. His courtesy name was Shizhen (sometimes written as Zhenshi), and his pen names included Shanggu and Xichang Yishi. He was from Wuzhou, now known as Suzhou in Jiangsu Province. In his youth, he studied under Wen Zhengming and became an accomplished disciple in both calligraphy and painting. His landscape paintings were known for their simplicity and vastness, reflecting the style of Song dynasty artists.
