Poshan Ming

  • Poyan Ming (1597-1666), whose birth name was Tongming, courtesy name Lanyu, and hao (pen name) Xudong, was born with the surname Jian. He was a renowned Buddhist master, poet, and calligrapher during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. Poyan Ming was an important Chan Buddhist master of the time and the founding abbot of the famous Chan monastery Shuanggui Hall. He was often referred to as the "Little Shakyamuni" and had a significant influence on the Buddhist traditions in the southwest region of China.
