Huang Fengqi

• Huang Fengqi (1851-1933), courtesy name Fangzhou, pen name Fangjiu, and later self-styled as Chunliangzi, was from Longtang, Yidu, in Anhua County. He began his studies at the age of four, learning the classics and history. At seventeen, he also began studying martial arts. In the 14th year of the Guangxu reign (1888), he passed the provincial examination (jüshi), and by the 20th year (1894), he earned the title of jinshi (highest degree in the imperial examination system).
